Quality AC bracket that will only work with FLAT bottom AC units
This is a well designed, compact window air conditioner support with a solid feel and design. But….. there are things a potential purchaser needs to know ahead of time. I’m personally not fond of window air conditioners but unless you have a massive and well designed cooling system, sometimes you need a window AC unit in a distant bedroom. I also bought the Frigidaire Energy Star 8,000 BTU 115V Window-Mounted Mini-Compact Air Conditioner w/ Temperature Sensing Remote Control, FFRE0833Q1 from Amazon and the air conditioner arrived a day before the window support. What you need to know about the A/C Safe AC-160 air conditioner support is that it will only work with a window AC unit that has a totally FLAT bottom. The Frigidaire FFRE0833Q1 does NOT have a flat bottom – it has a stepped bottom that makes this support useless. I tried for an hour to make this bracket and the Frigidaire FFRE0833Q1 play nice but they would not. Weary of juggling the 50 pound mini-Atlas stone of an AC unit around, I wound up removing the support unit and simply placing the FFRE0833Q1 in the window per manufacturers instructions. I sort of can’t return the bracket, I drilled an extra hole in it trying to make it work but I still think this bracket is a good idea and well made and I’ll hang on to it for a potential future use.The bracket itself is not as wide as I thought it would be – maybe 4″ or 5″ wide made of white powder coated heavy gauge (12 or 14 gauge I would guess) steel with a stainless hinge bolt and two heavy duty blue TapCon screws that will work in wood or brick. I like TapCon screws – they are strong and tough as can be. The bracket is pretty simple to install if you are moderately handy but be aware that it requires drilling into the window sill. You will need a 5/32″ drill bit, drill motor or cordless drill driver, tape measure, pencil and #3 Philips screwdriver or drill driver bit. The “extra hole” I mentioned above would actually be a product improvement. The rubber foot that articulates on the bottom of the platform wants to fall off the outside on its own when you slide the AC unit onto the bracket – it was pretty aggravating. I solved that problem by using the 5/32″ drill bit to drill through the foot and anchor it to the exterior siding with a stainless screw. That’s why I was so aggravated when I had to take the whole darn thing out when it would not work with the FFRE0833Q1 window AC unit with the stepped bottom. In summary, this is a quality bracket with quality hardware that can be installed in ten minutes if you read the instructions (yeah, that part was painful – I’m not into instructions) and have the right tools on hand. They (or you) really should add the single hole in the bottom rubber foot – it was a big help. Hope this data saves someone some time or a prevents an errant purchase.

Sturdy.
I have a large window AC. I needed extra support to hold in place. I’m on the 2nd floor so was a little nervous about my AC falling but this did the job beautifully.

Important
I ordered a large air conditioner. This shelf gave me the confidence and security that the heavy air conditioner would not damage my window. An extra benefit it cut down on the steps of installing the air conditioner. I have peace of mind that my air conditioner purchase is safely installed.

Warning, MacGuyvering may be required.
I purchased this along with my “Frigidaire 15,100 BTU 115V Window-Mounted Median Air Conditioner ” and was looking forward to some relief from the summer weather. I wrote quite an extensive review on the air conditioner which expressed a few of my feelings on this mounting kit but I shall go into more detail about it here.My first instinct in rating this product was to give it five stars because it is functioning well and is sturdily supporting our 100 pound air conditioner. After I thought about the trials it put my husband though with installation, we agreed that three stars was far more appropriate. I am not whining about this being effortless or being able to do it blind folded, this is about the rig itself and the gerry-rigging that became necessary. This kit calls itself universal. This is FALSE. It also does little in advising about proper mounting procedure when it comes to right or left side heavy units, except to tell you about it.As we are capable of thinking critically and using common sense, the latter wasn’t a big deal, but it would have been nice to have more guidance and tips to deal with the situation as our unit ended up being left-heavy. As for the former, we were absolutely livid that it said universal when it is designed only for single hung windows, not for windows that have any kind of track on the sill. Call me delusional, but in my experience, windows with tracks are far more common than those without these days. Because of this, my husband had to MacGuyver the thing like crazy to get it to work with our window. It was an extra headache that could have been avoided had the product been titled properly or critical information been included in the product description/details. No one should have to sift through reviews for pertinent information like that.I hope this review helps or at least entertained you with images of a man MacGuyvering an AC mount with things we had around our house.

Works great no complaints.
Works great no complaints. Wouldn’t recommend for too big an AC unit, but for small to medium sized units, solid.

Happy Customer –
I purchased this product because I installed an horizontal air conditioner in a vertical window, on the third floor master of our home. The bracket has proven to be solid, along with a bar I place inside across the window, and extra insurance a ratchet strap using two eye bolts I installed in the window sill. The initial piece, needed to be installed in the window frame, was too wide, by about 1/8″. I sent an email to the manufacturer to ask about a narrower block or would it be permissible for myself to narrow the block without changing the integrity of the assembly. They emailed me back within the hour I think and said it would be okay to narrow the block, so I shaved an 1/16 off each side and proceeded to complete the installation. I installed the shelf with what I thought was the appropriate angle, but discovered there was a roll in the air conditioner sitting on the bracket. Pulled the unit back out, increased the down angle more on the bracket and reinstalled the unit. Must work properly, as I see water dripping from the unit outside.
