Perfect dumb speedlight
I was looking for a simple, easy to control flash to take office portraits. This was cheap and worked perfectly. I wanted manual to have full control over the shoot and pressing buttons up and down and the led display was easy. It triggered fine on a hot shoe, a radio hotshoe, and optically. It had a good recycle timeâit never didnât fireâand it did a 4 hour photo shoot on one set of AA batteries without overheating.Remember itâs a dumb flashâno TTL auto or anything. You have to set the exposure manually on your camera to get it right. But for a studio type thing, or using this for a fill flash, itâs perfect.

GREAT!!!
I purchased this unit a while ago. It worked great then started giving me trouble. The return window had closed so I didn’t attempt a return. I hastily wrote a negative review instead of contacting the seller first for a solution. After I wrote my review and gave them 1 star, the company reached out to me. They offered to replace the unit at no additional cost to me. They didn’t have to do that. They care about customer satisfaction and stand by their products. I will 1000% purchase from this company again. Thank you! Thank you! The new flash works beautifully and just in time…I have a shoot tomorrow! Amazing service!!

Great flash.
This was a great buy for our cameras. The flash fit most of our cameras The light that emitted from the flash works great on pictures. The flash also comes with a lot of settings for the light. Great build quality and feels great in the hand.

No-Brainer Cheap Flash Unit – Buy Now!
I bought a few of these budget flash units to replace a few other budget flashes that finally died on me after a year of heavy use. It’s really as basic a flash unit if ever there was one. No LCD screen, no TTL, no wireless remote triggering – just a basic light up bar power meter, up and down buttons, a mode selector switch (manual, slave, and red eye reduction slave, I think). 99% of the time, I’m using them in manual mode, and I use them for everything – main key light inside a softbox, fill light in a cheap pop out diffuser, and even with no modifier at all as a hair light. These are AWESOME for what you’re paying. Name brand flashes (Nikon, Canon, Sony) can cost a good 6-7x more than what you’re paying. Yes they have more features and settings, but if you’re looking for a basic no-frills flash, you cannot go wrong with the Powerextra units. They can drain regular alkaline AA batteries pretty fast – I’d suggest getting a 4 pack of eneloop rechargable batteries. The build is sturdy as the name brands, ease of use if off the charts, and what you can do with them is limited only to your imagination. Buy these Powerextra DF-400s – you’ll thank me later on.

Amazing product at an amazing price A++
I’m a professional photographer who is still on a budget. I have nice lighting for my in my studio but I really needed something for my on location sessions. As much as I wanted to I didn’t have a crazy amount of money to spend. Then I came across this flash. As I do before I purchase anything online I read a bunch of the reviews and everyone is right, this is an amazing flash at an amazing price. It’s not one of those “you get what you payed for situations”. I believe that this flash is way better then what you paid for. Pair it with a soft box and you are set! An important thing with flashes with me is the recharge time. With often shooting small children I needed a flash that could match with a fast shutter speed and this one does the trick. Another worry of mine was that it would go through batteries crazy fast, but I was pleasantly surprised when it didn’t. Haven’t done a session without it since my purchase! Shipping was fast (I don’t have prime with two day shipping) and the packaging was great! The over all quality of the flash is amazing as well. In my personal opinion it feels well made and not of cheap plastic. Another perk is it doesn’t add too much excessive weight to your camera causing you to create camera shake. I would definitely reccomend this to both amateur and professional photographers.

UPDATED – Battery got too hot (maybe – not quite sure)
I didn’t get to use it. Upon the first try it wasn’t responding, like it was frozen. I couldn’t adjust the flash output at all. I tried to take a picture with how it was set and I heard a loud hiss and pop. A battery exploded and leaked acid all inside. Brand new batteries out of the pack. I had to return the item.I opted for the Neewer VK750 II i-TTL. So far so good. Works great with my Nikon D3200 and still a good price.***UPDATE***After returning this flash, they sent me a new one to try. I haven’t had a chance to really try it out yet, but I appreciate the free replacement. Just beware, they try to buy your positive reviews and get you to delete your negative ones, which means the reviews that are posted might not be a true reflection. I will update more once I’ve had a chance to try out the new one.

To me light is light there is good or bad light but not in this case a £600 pound flash of light is the same as the light from a much cheaper unit I use manual flash units easy to use and reliable. I have the TTL type but don’t like them as much so they get used as slaves if needed set to S1.Paying less than £40 for one of these that work well saves money and can be replaced easily on Amazon for next to nothing.Yes no HSS or TTL but at SS from 20th to 200 so much can be achieved. With or without a tripod.

So this thing is going to force you to shoot manual, but if you want it as a fill in flash, which is what I needed, it does the job. There are no bells and whistles… its cheap.. but I wouldn’t say nasty…I’ve been used to a Nikon SB800 so this is a major stap down, but it costs less than a tenth of the price of a new Nikon flash.
