    The Best Replacement
Found out the hard way that the manufacturer’s filter does make a difference in performance. I tried a couple ‘equivalent’ filters but only had issues. Low water flow and strange noises. Also, the knock offs don’t seem to fit right when installed. With the Whirpool filter, the installation was easy and had no problems. Definitely worth the extra cost.

  2. Harvey

    No
Easy to install and works great.

  3. Laurie

    Excellent value
What a great product. Really improves the taste of your water. Super easy to install.

  4. Ricky D

    Easy installation
This was an exact match and installed easily. It really improved the water flow. I cannot discern a difference in the taste but it has to be filtering the water better as it was overdue for a change.

    Fits in the fridge
I always run the water through till I stop seeing bubbles and dump the ice tray twice when I change this out. No idea if it’s really “doing” anything to filter stuff out. But it at least makes me feel like it is

Don’t Bother With The Generic…Get The OEM
I will start by saying that I hate to spend more money then I feel I need to when it comes to replacing items in the house. If there is a quality generic version I will tend to go with that. In this case my recommendation is to go with the OEM replacement filter for your Whirlpool refrigerator.Needless to say if you have a Whirlpool refrigerator then you already know that it wasn’t the most inexpensive purchase that you’ve made. My thoughts are when it comes to major appliances you don’t want to skimp as it’s a major investment and you want your investment to last. The water filters are rated to last for around 6 months although based on your usage of the water dispenser and ice settings it may last shorter or longer so results will vary depending on how you use your appliance.Back to what I said at the start…GO WITH THE OEM replacement. I purchased a generic replacement and it was a headache. It wasn’t an exact fit but did eventually make it into the unit but I had a constant small amount of water leakage which I felt would eventually cause damage to my wood floors. Even if you don’t have wood floors and have something like vinyl, laminate or tile it’s still just annoying to have to constantly wipe up water. The benefit of the OEM unit is you know since it’s made by the manufacturer…it’s going to fit. One important note! Before you click the purchase button I strongly recommend that you check your actual unit to see what type of filter you have as Whirlpool makes several different types and they all have a number designation right on the front. My particular model has the purple 1 symbol printed on it. Based on the type of model you have the location of the water filter may vary as well. In my unit it is located at the bottom of the appliance directly below the freezer door.As far as installation goes it’s a simple affair. Step 1, open the service hatch. Step 2, pull the used filter out. Step 3, line up your filter so the arrow matches the direction displayed on your filter door. Step 4, close the service hatch and then repeat these 4 steps again in 6 months time when it’s time to replace your water filter.I have included pictures and a very short video with my review. As always, I do recommend you do your own research to determine if this is right for you. I am not a paid reviewer for Amazon or the seller, just a regular Amazoner like you all sharing my thoughts. Good luck friends!
